The upcoming Apple Watch, set to release in 2024, could reportedly detect hypertension and sleep apnea. This information was reported by insiders to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

New Sensors for Health Monitoring

The new smartwatch is said to be equipped with a sensor that can detect when a user’s blood pressure is elevated. However, the system will not provide exact measurements, but will only indicate when blood pressure is high. Future versions of the Apple Watch could potentially measure the exact blood pressure of users.

Along with this new feature, a kind of digital diary could be included, allowing users to note what happened when the high blood pressure occurred.

Sleep Apnea Detection

The upcoming Apple Watch is also expected to have a system to monitor sleep and breathing habits of the user to detect sleep apnea. This could involve an app recommending a visit to a doctor based on the data collected.

More Health Features on the Horizon

Earlier this year, Bloomberg had reported that the next Apple Watch would also get a design refresh and a blood pressure sensor, though the specifics of its operation were unclear at that time.

Apple has not officially confirmed the arrival of these features. Typically, the company presents its new Apple Watches in September, along with new iPhones.

Blood Sugar Measurements

Bloomberg’s recent investigation into Apple’s health features suggests the first Apple Watch was supposed to have a feature to measure the user’s blood sugar level, but it is still not available.

Apple is reportedly working on blood sugar measurements without a needle through a secret company named Avolonte. This company has allegedly invested tens of millions per year over several years in developing such technology. The development is now said to be undertaken by Apple’s Exploratory Design Group, a division of its chip department.
