Internet pioneer, Daniel C. Lynch, known for his significant role in the development and global adaptation of TCP/IP protocols, passed away on Saturday at the age of 82. The TCP/IP protocols are the cornerstone of the modern internet.

A Key Player in Internet Development

Lynch worked on the development of TCP/IP protocols at the Stanford Research Institute in the 1970s. He played a crucial role in transitioning Arpanet, the precursor to the internet, to TCP/IP. Transmission control protocol and internet protocol now manage how data is sent and received over networks.

Growth of Interop and CyberCash

Lynch’s event, Interop, grew into one of the world’s largest computer exhibitions in a decade. He later sold Interop to Ziff Davis, a major publisher of computer magazines known for PCMag, Mashable, and IGN.

Lynch was also the co-founder of CyberCash, one of the first online payment services for e-commerce. However, the company declared bankruptcy in 2001.

Personal Life and Death

Lynch passed away at his home in St. Helena, California according to The New York Times. His daughter, Julie, revealed to the American newspaper that he had been suffering from kidney failure. Lynch was 82 years old at the time of his death.
