Attack and Aftermath

Following the attack, a fire erupted on board. The British Embassy in Yemen indicated that there were “at least two fatalities”. Additionally, there were at least six other people injured in the attack. The vessel had a total of twenty crew members on board at the time of the incident.

Houthis Claim Responsibility

In a statement, the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack. Their military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, suggested that the targeted ship was American. Since November, the Houthis have launched several rockets in support of the Palestinians in the conflict between Hamas and Israel. This incident marks the first time fatalities have been reported as a result of these attacks. The rebels sank a ship for the first time last Saturday.
