Special Prosecutor in Trump Fraud Case Resigns Due to Relationship with Boss

In the election fraud case against former President Donald Trump in the US state of Georgia, specially appointed prosecutor Nathan Wade resigned on Friday. Wade was forced to step down by the judge due to a relationship he had with the public prosecutor in the case.

Background of the Relationship

Wade previously had an affair with his boss, Fani Willis, the public prosecutor of Fulton County. According to Willis, the relationship began a few months after Wade was hired as the head of her team in the election fraud case. The affair ended in the summer of 2023.

Lawyers for Trump and eight co-defendants accused the couple of an improper relationship, alleging that Wade used his salary to take Willis on vacations.

Court’s Decision

The court ruled on Friday that Willis could remain as public prosecutor, but only if Wade resigned as special prosecutor. Following this, Wade submitted his resignation.

Charges Against Donald Trump

Trump and fourteen others are on trial in Georgia for attempts to overturn his election defeat in 2020. The start date of the trial is still unclear. Willis has proposed August 5 as the start date, but the court has not yet agreed to this. Trump is attempting to delay the four criminal cases against him until after the presidential elections in November.
