Conor McGregor Cleared of Sexual Assault Allegations

Published about 1 year ago

In a recent turn of events, UFC fighter Conor McGregor will not face charges for a sexual assault claim filed against him during an NBA finals game in Florida in June. The prosecutors informed BBC about this development. McGregor had been accused of forcefully assaulting a woman in a VIP bathroom at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The accuser, who remains unnamed, also claimed that the arena security aided the assault by confining her in the restroom.

Case Dropped by State Attorney’s Office

The case was dropped confirmed a spokesperson from the state attorney’s office. The incident allegedly occurred during Game 4 of the previous year’s NBA finals between Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets. The woman’s legal representative claimed that she was forced into a men’s bathroom by NBA and Miami Heat security guards. After the assault by McGregor, the woman managed to escape from the bathroom, leaving behind her purse which she later retrieved after convincing the security personnel.

Security footage showed both McGregor and the accuser entering the restroom together. McGregor’s lawyer, Barbara Llanes, provided a statement indicating that the UFC star and his family were relieved that the ordeal was over. She said, “After a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against my client, Conor McGregor.”

McGregor’s Return to UFC

McGregor, who hasn’t participated in a UFC fight since his broken leg injury during a match with Dustin Poirier in July 2021, is planning his return to the sport. His re-entry into the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s testing pool is a significant step towards this goal. Originally, he was expected to face Michael Chandler this year, but he must be back in the testing pool for six months before he can fight. It is anticipated that his return to the UFC will occur sometime in 2024.
