Max Verstappen Expresses Desire to Honour Contract with Red Bull Racing

Published 10 months ago

Max Verstappen, the widely discussed Dutch driver, has stated his intention to fulfill his contract with Red Bull Racing. However, he did not entirely rule out an early departure from his current team in a conversation at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

“When I sign a contract, I always have the intention to serve it out, otherwise we would not have signed for so long,” said the 26-year-old Verstappen, who is under contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028.

He pointed out that his commitment hinges on the performance of the car. From 2026 onwards, there are some uncertainties, but Verstappen knew this in advance. “I also know what Red Bull has done for my career. The intention is to stay with this team. As long as we are performing, there is no reason to leave.”

Speculations on Verstappen’s Future

Verstappen’s future has been a topic of discussion since last Saturday night. His father, Jos Verstappen, expressed concern after the Grand Prix of Bahrain, suggesting that “it cannot go on like this” and that the team, due to the controversy surrounding team boss Christian Horner, “threatens to fall apart”. Since then, Verstappen has been linked to Mercedes by various media, who are looking for a successor to Lewis Hamilton, who is moving to Ferrari.

Verstappen Maintains a Level-headed Approach

Verstappen did allow for some uncertainty regarding the complete fulfillment of his contract. He remarked, “There was also nobody who had seen coming that Lewis would move to Ferrari. This is not just about F1, but about life: you never know what happens or what comes your way. You can never say 100 percent that something will or will not happen. But I don’t think too much about it. I am very relaxed and happy with the team. There is no reason to leave.”
