Lewis Hamilton Rumoured to Transfer to Ferrari in 2025

Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton might be on the verge of a sensational transfer to Ferrari in 2025, multiple foreign media outlets report. The 39-year-old driver is believed to be in the process of discussing the final details of his contract, which could be finalized by the end of the week.

Mercedes’ Reaction

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is expected to make an announcement later today. Both Mercedes and Ferrari have so far declined to comment.

Hamilton’s Journey with Mercedes

Hamilton, who is starting his twelfth season with Mercedes this year, has flourished greatly with the German team. The British driver has become one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers ever, clinching his seventh world title in 2020 and holding the record for the most Grand Prix wins (103 victories).

However, in recent years, he has seen Max Verstappen take over his dominance. Mercedes has struggled to compete with Red Bull, Verstappen’s team. Hamilton’s last Grand Prix victory was in 2021, in Saudi Arabia.

Recent Contract Extension

Despite the challenges, Hamilton recently extended his contract with Mercedes, asserting that it is still possible to secure a world title with the team.

“Mercedes and I have unfinished business. We want to win more world titles. Back to the top. Become the best team in F1 history again,” Hamilton said.

However, a clause in his extended contract allows him the option to leave the German team in 2025.

Expert Opinion

Louis Dekker, an F1 expert, believes the transfer is likely but cautions that an advanced discussion is not yet a contract. He suggests that the rumour could explain why Charles Leclerc got a contract extension with Ferrari while Carlos Sainz did not. Furthermore, Dekker believes Hamilton’s chances of claiming an eighth world title in the coming seasons are greater with Ferrari than with Mercedes.

The new Formula 1 season has not yet started. The first Grand Prix, in Bahrain, is scheduled for March 2nd. The country will also host the testing days between February 21st and 23rd.
