OpenAI Rolls Out 'Read Aloud' Feature for ChatGPT

Published 10 months ago

OpenAI has introduced a new feature for its ChatGPT, known as ‘Read Aloud’. This addition enables the chatbot to convert text into audio, essentially reading the content aloud.

Available on Web and Smartphone App

The Read Aloud function can be accessed both through the web version of ChatGPT and its smartphone application. To utilise the feature on iOS or Android, users must tap a message, hold it, and then tap on ‘Read Aloud’. On the web version, a button appears under a message to activate the function.

Multiple Voice Options and Language Support

The Read Aloud feature can read texts in one of five available voices. Furthermore, it supports 37 different languages, including Dutch. ChatGPT automatically detects the language.

Compatibility with GPT Versions

Users of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 can access this new feature. It works on both the web version of ChatGPT and on iOS and Android devices.

Continuous Audio Response Option

According to The Verge, users can also opt to have the chatbot constantly respond orally. Last year, OpenAI released a voice feature for the app versions of ChatGPT, allowing users to ask the chatbot things with a voice command. ChatGPT was already able to answer in audio form, but with Read Aloud, it’s now possible to have generated text answers read out loud.
