Fourth Lawyer Pleads Guilty in Trump Election Fraud Case

Published about 1 year ago

American lawyer Jenna Ellis is the fourth defendant to plead guilty in the election fraud case in Georgia, USA. Ellis assisted former President Donald Trump in his attempt to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

Admission of Guilt

Ellis admitted to aiding in the creation of false statements. In exchange for her admission, she will not face a trial but will instead pay a fine of $5,000 (about €4,700). She will also be on probation for five years. Ellis agreed to cooperate with the prosecutors and may potentially testify against Trump.

Ellis is the third member of Trump’s legal team to close such a deal since last Thursday. Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro preceded her. Additionally, former Trump ally Scott Hall closed a similar deal last month.

Nineteen Defendants, Including Trump

A total of nineteen people have been indicted in this case, including Trump himself. He insists upon his innocence and labels the process a witch hunt.

Multiple Cases Against Trump

The case is one of four that Trump is currently involved in, and one of two connected to his attempts to reverse his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden. On Tuesday, Trump is in a New York court for a fraud case where his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen testifies against him. Amid all these cases, Trump is attempting to become the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential elections.
