Jacob Chansley, Capitol Rioter, Aspires for a Congressional Seat

Published about 1 year ago

Jacob Chansley, notorious for his role in the January 2021 US Capitol riot, aims to secure a place in the House of Representatives, according to legal documents reported by the US media.

The Iconic Figure of the Capitol Riot

Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli, became a symbol of the Capitol invasion with his horned and bearskin hat, shirtless torso, and evident tattoos. On January 6th, 2021, he, along with hundreds of supporters, stormed the Capitol intending to stop the validation of Joe Biden’s election victory.

During the riot, Chansley managed to reach the Senate and sat in the seat of then-Vice President Mike Pence. He left a note indicating that “justice would be served,” reflecting his alignment with the QAnon conspiracy theory. This theory suggests a global elite is engaging in malicious activities, including a network of child abuse.

Chansley’s Political Ambitions

Now, Chansley seeks to channel his notoriety into a political career. He plans to run in Arizona for the Libertarian Party.

Following the riot, Chansley was arrested and pleaded guilty in September 2021. During his trial, he admitted remorse for his actions on January 6th, conceding that it was wrong to invade the Capitol and that he had no excuse for his behavior.

Chansley was eventually sentenced to a 41-month prison term and a fine of $2,000, approximately 1,870 euros. However, he was permitted to leave prison after 27 months in March this year.

More than a thousand individuals were charged for their participation in the deadly Capitol riot.
